Ramon Garcia Lara - Timeline, 2025
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=st4zPmK6D4c&list=OLAK5uy_lPmhFv6YcgywBqy1OsDnEDSZXWoz243_E
Ramon Garcia Lara is a pianist from Navarre trained at the Conservatory of Music of Navarre, where he obtained degrees in chamber music, classical piano, and jazz. He has led his own projects such as Luces del Norte and collaborated with artists like Jade Caravan, Iñaki Rodríguez Quintet, Deborah Carter Quintet, Mikel Andueza, Iñaki Askunze, Jorge Pardo, and Bob Sands. He was the pianist and conductor of the Pamplona Jazz Orchestra and combines his artistic activity with teaching.
Timeline is his first solo work, a trio-format project with an emotional and introspective approach. The album is a personal journey in which each piece reflects a life moment, explored through improvisation and interaction with the musicians. The recording took place at Pottoko Studio (Beasain) on February 22 and 23, 2025, produced by Fredi Peláez and Ramon Garcia Lara himself.
Listening to this album feels like entering someone else’s home for the first time, where everything is in its right place — furniture, shelves, paintings, appliances, everything. The layout of the rooms is perfect. And beyond that, the harmony doesn’t feel forced, as if Maria Kondo or any other order guru had arranged it. In Timeline, everything is where it should be because the melodies lead you there, because the synergy of the performances finds you a place within that balance. It’s no surprise to find Hilario Rodeiro on double bass, who impressed me last year with the album Pausa. Timeline is a wonderful record, a merit of the leader but also of the two great instrumentalists who accompany him. Congratulations.
Musicians: Ramon Garcia Lara (piano), Kike Arza (double bass), Hilario Rodeiro (drums).
Tracks: Prelude, Stroke, Lost Time, Empty Room, Morning Lullaby, Little Star, The Source, Manhã de Carnaval, Empty Room (Alt. Take).
Listening : Prelude, Stroke, Lost Time, Empty Room

Xose Miguélez - Live at Teatro Colón, 2025
https://xosemiguelez.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-teatro-col-n
On this Live at Teatro Colón, we find the quartet formed by Miguélez on tenor saxophone, Jean-Michel Pilc on piano, Carlos Barretto on double bass, and Miguel Salvador on drums.
Xose Miguélez is a Galician saxophonist born in 1983, recognized for his work in the field of contemporary jazz and for integrating traditional Galician music into his compositions. He has studied and worked in both Galicia, Portugal, and France, collaborating with renowned musicians from the European scene and leading various jazz projects.
We also recently listened to Jean-Michel Pilc at the beginning of October, with the trio consisting of himself on piano, François Moutin on double bass, and Ari Hoenig on drums:
Live at Teatro Colón is a live recording featuring his quartet in a performance held at Teatro Colón in A Coruña on May 19, 2024. Here, we find musicians who know each other and know where they want to go. As it should be, though that’s not always the case. The album conveys the freshness of a live concert and musicians who give themselves completely, but with the wisdom of playing just the right notes. The record reflects the connection and complicity between the members, blending melodic sensitivity with notable improvisational energy. The repertoire consists of two original compositions—one by Miguélez (“Ontology”) and another by Pilc (“Galicia”). There’s also room for reinterpretations of classics, with a wink to “someday my Monk will come.”
Musicians: Xose Miguélez (tenor saxophone), Jean-Michel Pilc (piano), Carlos Barretto (double bass), Miguel Salvador (drums).
Tracks: you and the night and the music, ontology, someday my Monk will come, galicia, some other blues.
We are listening to: you and the night and the music, ontology.

Rodrigo Parejo Quartet - Nomads, 2025
https://rodrigoparejo.bandcamp.com/album/nomads
The album I’m presenting next is pure passion—the passion of a musician, a passion that he transmits to us through his music. Listening to this album, the feeling is intense: it feels as though Rodrigo Parejo offers his energy distilled into music, concentrated in every phrase and every harmony.
Rodrigo Parejo is a Spanish flautist noted for his ability to fuse contemporary jazz with global influences. He has developed his career between Spain and Asia, performing at international festivals and collaborating with musicians from different cultures. His music reflects a dialogue between diverse styles and personal exploration through travel.
I would very much like to bring Rodrigo onto the program and have him share his musical and life ideas with us. We’ll see if this is possible.
Nomads is a collection of pieces inspired by Rodrigo Parejo’s experiences traveling between West and East. The album brings together sonic influences from Java, Japan, Mexico, Latin America, and flamenco, exploring the encounters and transformations that new cultural landscapes bring. Each track aims to reflect this exchange and the personal learning lived by the artist.
Musicians: Rodrigo Parejo (flutes, composition, orchestration), Sri Hanuraga (piano, keyboards), Kevin Yosua (double bass), Elfa Zulham (drums), Stefania Michalicova (violin, track 7), María Miecznikowska (violin, track 7), Malgorzata Dieciol (viola, track 7), Zsuzsanna Brezovai (cello, track 7), Francisco Escudero “El Perrete” (flamenco vocals, track 7), Javi Mojave (percussion, track 7).
